CARING FOR ALPACA

We want your alpaca garments to have a long and happy life. Like most luxurious fabrics, alpaca does require gentle care. Please check each product’s care instructions prior to washing.

In general:

  • Do not machine wash

  • Do not use heavy detergent or soap

  • Do not bleach

  • Do not wring

  • Do not tumble dry

  • Do not dry exposed to direct sunlight

Most socks:

  • Turn inside out to avoid pilling

  • Place in mesh bag

  • Machine wash on delicate in cool water with very mild soap (preferably baby shampoo)

  • Do not bleach or use fabric softener

  • Lay flat to dry

Hand washing:

  • Turn inside out, if possible

  • Place in a mesh bag to protect from pulls

  • Dissolve a mild soap (preferably baby shampoo) in cool water. Soak 3-5 minutes.

  • Gently allow the water to flush thru the fiber. Do not wring, twist or scrub, as this can cause felting.

  • Rinse 2-3 times in clean, cool water. Press excess water.

  • Lay garment on a towel and gently roll up in the towel

  • Press gently without wringing or squeezing.

  • Ease garment back into shape and lay flat to dry.

Rugs, Pillows, Blankets, Hats, Scarves, Coats, Jackets and Any Non-Washable Items

  • Dry clean these items, preferably using organic methods

  • Brushing: You may brush your alpaca fleece gently with a wire pet brush or hairbrush. This works particularly well when the fibers get matted from sitting or lying on the item.

  • Spot cleaning: With a sponge, use mild soap (preferably baby shampoo) and cool water.
